New Pics

I'm behind. I know it. But here are some pics to amuse our fans. :)

Sam and Kate and I like to play pirates on my bed. Sam wears his bandana, and well, Kate decided to make her own hat. Not sure if you can tell, but it's Sam's underwear. Fortunately selected from the clean laundry in the laundry basket. Sam's the captain. Kate's First mate. I'm third mate. It's a raw deal.

Here's a picture of our little jayhawk lady. "hayhawk" she says. She's a big fan. Like she has a choice.

Uncle Lysle made a big hit with this tent he gave to Sam. He's Mr. Popularity now with all of the neighbors.

Kate looking sweet in her new dress and bonnet from Mamaw. She actually wanted the hat, so it was a good deal!

His guys

This morning when we left for Jo's, Sam brought two of his guys-- Moosee and Spotty-- in the car. When we got there, he said, "I'm going to take my guys in today. I'm pretty attached to them, you know."

I thought that was so funny! I've used the phrase lately about Kate and her blankets-- "she's getting pretty attached to them" and so on. But when you hear it out of at 4 year old, it really seems funny!

You know we're proud jayhawks!

National champions is what we are! Oh yeah. Uh huh. Oh yeah. Un huh.
We've been celebrating all week. Sam stayed up late watching games and cheering and watching One Shining Moment. Oh yeah, uh huh.
Sunday we made the trek in the relative cold to Lawrence and watched the parade for the NATIONAL CHAMPION KANSAS JAYHAWKS. Oh yeah.
It was cold. The wind was brutal. We waited for almost an hour. But we were rewarded by seeing the jayhawks up close. I did manage to keep myself from personally rewarding Bill Self (Mary said no stalking). Sam and Reed got to give all the player a high five. Of course, Sam's biggest moment was getting to high five Sasha Kaun.

Doing something nice

We slept late this morning because the kids had a busy weekend, so Sam and I were a little rushed at the donut store. When we got there, our friend Sue was particularly cranky today—she reported that she had thrown out her back early that morning at work, but couldn’t get a hold of anyone else to come relieve her of duties, so was suffering through. I asked if I could run and get her something at the drugstore or something, but she declined.

After that, Sam looked at me and said, “We need to do something nice for Sue.”

“That’s a great idea, Sam. What did you have in mind?” I asked.

“Well, what if we buy her something. Like a dress. Not a wedding dress, but just a regular dress. For every day.”

Quick thinking required, “That would be so nice, Sam, but I’m not sure we know her size. It’s hard to buy clothes for people if we don’t know their size,” I said.

“I’m 4 and a half. You know my size, right, mom?” Sam asked.

“Yes, definitely. Do you have a different idea?”

“How about groceries? We could go to the grocery store and buy her some food. Everyone likes food,” Sam offered.

“Why do you want to do something for Sue,” I asked, curious.

“Because she makes us the best donuts!” Sam said.

Honesty.

This morning at breakfast, Sam asked, “Do you have fun at work?”
I thought for a minute and said, honestly, “Sometimes.”

“Do you say ‘Yea! No kiddos around here!’” he asked.

What do you say to that??!
