Sam was asked yesterday to be the ring bearer in a wedding this summer. Unfortunately, Sam was pretty strung out when he was asked from his crazy weekend, so he cried and said "No way! I'm not doing that!"
Stu and I talked with him last night and explained his duties-- you know, carry the pillow, walk down the aisle, be a big helper. He said, "I want to walk down the aisle with Kate."
We responded, "Well, buddy, the bride and groom pick their special friends to be in the wedding, and she has already asked a little girl she used to babysit."
"But she's a stranger mom. And I'm not going to marry her."
OH. Well that explained a lot. "No, buddy, you don't have to marry her. Only the bride and groom will be getting married."
After that and a little explanation about the present big helpers get, he agreed to the duties and called the groom back to accept. I did hear him offer up his own pillow for the job, but we'll deal with that later.
